Kia EV6 Charging Specs: One Number Across Every Trim
Kia standardized the EV6's onboard AC charger at 10.9kW across the current lineup, so the amperage draw doesn't change whether you're looking at the entry Light RWD or the top GT-Line AWD:

The GT performance trim, discontinued for the 2026 model year, shared this same 10.9kW/48A spec — the current three-trim lineup (Light, Wind, GT-Line) is what a 2026 buyer actually chooses between. 48A is on the higher end of common home Level 2 loads — comparable to the Ioniq 5's onboard charger rate — which is exactly why the panel question can't be skipped just because the EV6's spec sheet is simpler than most.
What a 48A Continuous Load Means for Your Panel
A 48A charger circuit isn't sized at 48A on the breaker — NEC 625.41 requires overcurrent protection rated at not less than 125% of a continuous load, which is why the EV6 needs a 60A breaker rather than a 50A one.
Whether the panel itself has room is a separate question, calculated by NEC 220.83(A) for an existing home (or 220.82 for new construction/a full service change) and then checked against your service rating under NEC 230.79: the first 8 kVA of general and fixed-appliance load counts at 100%, and the remainder at 40%. A 48A EV6 charger is added to that calculated load before the 230.79 check.

What connector does the Kia EV6 use?
2022–2024 Kia EV6 model years use CCS for both Level 2 (via a J1772 adapter or inlet) and DC fast charging. Starting with the 2025 model year, Kia switched the Georgia-built Light, Wind, and GT-Line trims to the NACS (Tesla-style) port, following the same industry-wide connector transition most EV makers began adopting; the Korea-built GT trim kept CCS through its final 2025 model year before being discontinued for 2026.

The connector swap changes what plugs into the vehicle, not what the home circuit looks like. A hardwired Level 2 EVSE or a NEMA 14-50 outlet feeding a portable charger both work the same way regardless of connector generation — the panel-side load calculation doesn't change because the plug at the car did.
If 48A Doesn't Fit: Dialing the Charger Down
Because every EV6 trim asks for the same 48A, owners with a tight panel don't have a lower-trim option to fall back on the way some other EV buyers do. The two practical levers are the same ones that apply to any EV charger installation:
- Set the charger to a lower amperage. Most EV6 charging settings (and most EVSEs) allow a lower target amperage — 32A or 24A, for example — which reduces the continuous load the panel calculation has to carry, at the cost of a slower charge.
- A load-management device. Shares capacity with another circuit (often the electric dryer or range) so the charger and the appliance never draw at full load simultaneously, without a full service upgrade.
