About
I am a Master Electrician. ChargeRight is what I wish I could hand every homeowner.
Most people who get a quote for an EV charger never see the load calculation. They see a number and a decision. ChargeRight runs the same NEC 220.82 calc a licensed electrician runs, shows it to you, and tells you - honestly - whether your panel has room for the charger your car needs.

Why ChargeRight exists
When a homeowner asks about an EV charger, the first answer they usually get is "you need a panel upgrade." I heard that enough times from customers that I looked up why.
NEC 220.82 is an optional load calculation method that gives homes credit for electricity they actually use, not worst-case totals. The demand factors account for how heating, cooling, and large appliances actually run in practice. A lot of homes come out with headroom. The standard calculation method does not show you that. The optional method does, and the code has allowed it for years.
The math is not a trade secret. It is just not accessible. ChargeRight runs the same NEC 220.82 calculation I run on a service call, shows you the numbers, and tells you plainly whether your panel has room. If the upgrade quote is justified, the report says so directly. If it is not, the report says that too.
I built the tool with Claude Code - a Master Electrician and an AI, working out of apps on a laptop. The expertise that used to cost $300 for a service call is now $12.99. That is what this is about.
What I believe
- Homeowners deserve the same math their electrician runs, not a sales pitch.
- Most EV chargers can land on the panel you already have. The code allows for it.
- A $12.99 pre-assessment beats a $300 service call when the answer is straightforward.
- If your panel actually needs an upgrade, the report says so plainly - no nudging.
On the tools
ChargeRight is not a thing built by someone who has never been in a panel. This is the day job.

What ChargeRight is not
Trust gets built by being precise about the scope. ChargeRight is:
- NOTa permit or a final electrical design
- NOTan installation service - I do not bid or schedule work
- NOTa referral kickback - electricians do not pay to be listed
- NOTa sales funnel for any charger brand or contractor
