The two Louisvilles
Working panels across this city, the same pattern repeats. In the older neighborhoods — Old Louisville's Victorians, shotgun houses in Germantown and Schnitzelburg, pre-war stock in the Highlands, Clifton, and Crescent Hill — the electrical service often predates every appliance now hanging off it. Some of these homes have been upgraded over the decades; plenty still run 100A services, and a few surprise everyone with less. East of the Watterson it flips. Newer construction — the East End, Middletown, Norton Commons and the like — typically carries 200A service, and a 48A charger usually fits with room to spare. There the job is the simple story: a dedicated circuit, a breaker sized at 125% of the charger's draw (the breaker ladder), and an inspection.

Permits: Louisville is the local-permit path

New Albany, Jeffersonville, and Clarksville are ten minutes away and under a different rulebook: Indiana enforces its own edition of the NEC through its own permitting authorities.
